If you are interested in acquiring a quality AKC registered Sheltie, we invite you to fill out our questionnaire. Note: please fill out all questions that are marked with a red asterick (required), or the site will not forward the completed questionnaire to us. If you do not hear from us in 24 hours, please drop us an email at dalepowell56@gmail.com
Our puppies are hand raised in our home, and we use puppy culture methods and early stimulation to aid in their development. We are big on socialization, exposing them to new sights, sounds, sensations, surfaces, and surroundings. Generally when they are placed at 10-12 weeks, they are pretty much potty trained (not foolproof by any means), leash training has started, and they will have all appropriate vaccinations along with worming. They may also be microchipped already.
Filling out the questionnaire does not obligate you in any manner, nor does it guarantee we will be able to place a puppy with you. It gives us a chance to learn about you, what you are looking for, and what your family situation is like along with the kind of activities you plan to be involved with.
Shelties are not for everybody, they are an active breed, and they are vocal. We do require a fenced yard, so your puppy/dog has the room to run and play, and be safe from other animals. Shelties are barkers, we like to know our owners know this and are willing to work with them to aid in training. Shelties are also like people, each has their own personality. When they are ready for their forever homes, we know their traits and personalities. Great thought goes into picking the right pup for your family. We may be able to offer you a choice in puppies but there is no guarantee. Shelties need regular and frequent physical activity and play time. They are devoted to their family, sensitive, and do not respond well to harsh treatment. As a herding breed, Shelties need a job to do you may find them herding your children or grandchildren, and it is common for them to occasionally nip at your feet or ankles as they try to herd their flock if there is a lot of activity. Try to walk them every day if the weather permits, or provide other activities.
Shelties are one of the top 10 most intelligent breeds, they learn quickly and are eager to please. You will find they are wonderful watchdogs, they will be sure to let you know when the doorbell is ringing also.
Our females have undergone all the common breed specific health and genetic testing. Sires that are chosen for our breeding program also have been thoroughly screened and tested we will provide all testing information to you.
The reason we breed is to improve the Shetland Sheepdog. We pursue this goal in the conformation show ring, we can't keep every puppy however. Not every puppy is right for the show ring, these are the lucky puppies that head to new forever homes. We do not like to use the terms "show quality", or "pet quality", with the health and genetic testing behind us every dog we hope are all the same quality. Our puppies are companions. We are affiliated with most of the reputable AKC breeders in Alaska, as well as some Canadian breeders and from the lower 48. We will use your information to keep you in mind for upcoming litters and can refer you to litters that we know of.
